Vicki Fox Smith, Director, MadNation, and Robert Bernstein, Ph.D., Executive Director, The Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law
Growing out of a sometimes contentious discussion between the presenters on the difference between being an advocate and being an activist, this workshop will examine strategies for effecting change and the uneasy alliances that are sometimes formed in pursuit of social justice and human rights. Expect a hard hitting discussion about getting invited (or not) to the table where decision making really happens, a serious look at where we place ourselves and others on this strange continuum, and the limitations and strengths of the various perspectives.
